Walk to the Moon

Did you ever wonder what it would take to walk to the moon?

Atmospheric issues aside, how many steps – and how much time - would it take to walk that far? Are you thinking it would be impossible for any person to walk that far in a lifetime?

Think again – the answer may surprise you.

The average distance from the earth to the moon is 238,857 miles. At a pace of 3 miles per hour, this is 79,619 hours. If you took off today and walked just 10 hours a day (you have to admit, that is not impossible), you could walk that far in 21.8 years.

21.8 years to walk to the moon…just a fraction of the normal life span.

It makes you realize how possible the seemingly impossible can be if you just break it down and take action.

So here’s the big question. If you can walk those 238,857 miles in just 21.8 years, what could you do with the 525,600 minutes you are given each year? That’s about 36,792,000 minutes in a 70-year life span!

I’ve read my share of books on time management (as I’m sure you have). But the fact is, time is time. As much as we like to think it can be managed, it cannot. It will pass at the same pace, no matter what we do. Each day, we are given the gift of 1440 minutes – and at the end of that day, they are gone forever. There are no rollover minutes in life.

So the question is, what will we do with the precious time we are given? Some people, realizing the value of time, invest it and build empires; while others, given the same amount of time, simply spend it until it’s gone, with nothing to show for it.

I encourage you to ask yourself one question: Are you living according to your priorities – investing your time in things that really matter…or are you simply spending it? Or worse yet, are you allowing others to spend it for you? The fact is, if we don’t decide our priorities, someone else will. We may end up living someone else’s life and totally missing our own.

Take a look at the goals you set at the beginning of the year – those based on your vision and mission. Are you on track, or have other priorities infringed upon your time? There may be a need for a quarterly calibration to refocus and get back on track.

There are approximately 459,360 minutes left in this year.  You have more minutes than there are miles to the moon.

Now the big question: What are you going to do with them?
